About me

I’m here to support you and, I’m on your side.

After working as a Company Director in senior HR and Operational roles for a wide range of Companies I decided I wanted a change of direction. I realised I want to use my knowledge, skills and experience where it would be appreciated the most, in helping small businesses and individuals.

After 30 years in business, I’ve seen most of the highs and lows the Owners and Managers of small companies face. As an HR specialist, Project Manager or Head of a Department, I’ve often been the person called in to solve the problems no one else has been able to solve or clear up the mess that no one else has wanted to touch.

HR is always seen as something the bigger companies do

But it annoys me that HR is always seen as something the bigger Companies do whilst the smaller ones just have to muddle along. For a small business suddenly thrown into a world of intricate laws and regulations, it can be a complicated, dangerous minefield, with expert, understandable advice impossible to get at the right price.

I set up Colin Barratt HR to remedy that.

My background and experience working with businesses has put me in the privileged position of being able to objectively interpret the situation and anticipate how things will turn out either for a small business owner having staffing problems or for an individual being ground down by a big Company.

I’m able to bring my corporate insight to the cases of employees with grievances, giving them insight into what their employer and their big HR department will be thinking and what their next action will be. And, I’m able to help small businesses, who can’t afford a quality HR function, resolve issues and get to where you need to be whilst working within the law.

It’s a win-win for me, and I hope to pass that same winning feeling on to each of my clients!

When I’m not focusing on HR, I’m a proud husband and father of two young children. Living in Nottingham it’s only natural that I’m a loyal Notts County fan and Cricket enthusiast, and I also enjoy a bit of amateur drama and community voluntary work when I can find the time too!

I have worked with Colin as a business consultant and mentor for many years. He is a skilled HR professional with an excellent commercial approach. I have always found his advice to be clear, concise, free of jargon and practical. I am happy to recommend Colin without reservation.
